An Eventful Week

Last week was full of events around Leeds – Leeds Business Week was in full force and then Thursday saw the World Mental Health Day event in the Civic Hall.

As part of Leeds Business Week and in conjunction with Genus Law, the October Mindful Employer Network meeting took place on the 12th at the Round Foundry. The theme was ‘Creating Mentally Healthy Workplaces’ and the session aimed to:

  • Outline the business case for focusing on employee wellbeing and positively promoting mental health at work
  • Reveal essential principles for effectively retaining employees with anxiety, stress or depression
  • Identify practical strategies for improving mental wellbeing in your workplace
  • Demonstrate real-life examples with Genus Law

You can see the presentation here: Presentation for Network meeting October 2015 and overview of the Genus Law programme: Genus Law – Wellbeing programme

Emma Hammond from Genus Law also provided their employee survey as an example for other Network members to adapt: Genus Employee Wellbeing Survey 140515

Other resources include a couple of articles from Genus Law on resilience and collegiate eating.

The next Mindful Employer Network is in conjunction with DAC Beachcroft and will be held on December 9th in Leeds city centre. We’ll be screening the new ManUp? short film and discussing how to have conversations about mental health in the workplace. In the meantime watch the ACAS video on how NOT to have them here. Hope to see you there!

The World Mental Health Day event was very well attended with over 20 organisations showcasing their services, lots
of culture and hundreds of attendees.

If you couldn’t make it then you can see a list of all the mental health services in Leeds here: Leeds Mental Health Directory

Across Leeds there’s a project running to develop the Directory into an interactive online hub which will help users navigate through the information to find what’s most relevant. Please answer this short survey to shape what it looks like – Mental Health Info hub survey – it’s open until 31 October and will take between 5 – 10 minutes.
