Eversheds Sutherland LLP is a global multinational law practice. Catherine Brant, HR Business Partner, has written her reflections on the organisations approach to World Mental Health Day and how the firm has worked with, and supported, Mindful Employer over a number of years.
Eversheds Sutherland LLP is a full service global law firm, with 66 offices across 32 countries, and some 5,000 people providing legal advice and solutions to a global client base ranging from small and mid-sized businesses to the largest multinationals.
As a Mindful Employer, have actively been partnering with the MIND organisation for a number of years. We hosted the Mindful Employer Conference in 2014 and a network event in 2017, and have continued to support key initiatives and work closely together.
Supporting good mental health and employee wellbeing are fundamental to the way that we work at Eversheds Sutherland, and we recognise the role that a positive working environment can play in fostering an inclusive, high performance culture. We firmly believe in working together to support each other, and feel that our culture encourages this. We promote regular dialogue between individuals and their managers, have an open approach to giving and receiving feedback, and place emphasis on creating a friendly, social working environment.
World Mental Health Day – 10 October
Leeds, Newcastle and Edinburgh– these offices hosted a ‘Tea & Talk’ event that provided an opportunity for colleagues to come together, informally, over tea and cake, to connect with each other and take time out of the working day. The event brought people together to focus on mental health issues and discuss what more needs to be done to make mental health care a reality for people in our offices.
Birmingham– shared information locally regarding the support available to colleagues and encouraging people to seek help if they are struggling. The office is also planning to host a staff event with a focus on the importance of maintaining a good work-life balance.
We do recognise that the legal sector is a high-pressure environment, and believe in the importance of maintaining your wellbeing when working under pressure. With this in mind, we hosted a webinar in partnership with AXA on the subject of ‘Maintaining your Wellbeing Under Pressure’ that was available to everyone across the firm. The session ran over the lunchtime period and contained lots of information and helpful guidance.
